Every since the little blue check popped up on Twitter accounts – everyone’s been trying to figure out how to get one for themselves. In the past, Twitter’s verified status check has been relatively exclusive to entertainers, businesses, leaders, and popular influencers. Today, Twitter announced its online application process, making the process easier and open to the public.
Twitter was the first platform to introduce account verification, starting in 2009 and currently has close to 187,000 verified accounts.
“We want to make it even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter so it makes sense for us to let people apply for verification,” said Tina Bhatnagar, Twitter’s vice president of User Services. “We hope opening up this application process results in more people finding great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for these creators and influencers to connect with a broader audience.”
To be able to complete the form, your account must have the following:
- A verified phone number
- A confirmed email address
- A bio
- A profile photo
- A birthday (for accounts that are not company, brand, or organization accounts)
- A website
- Tweets set as public in Tweet privacy settings
No word on whats prompting the new process – but Im not complaining. This has been a long time coming.
The application process will start rolling out today and be available globally this week. Start your application today at http://verification.twitter.com
